Crashing Cudicini and the Budget Goalkeepers

Carlo Cudicini, the Tottenham goalkeeper, fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis after being involved in a road accident this morning. A spokesman for London's Metropolitan police said the ambulance service and an emergency helicopter had attended the scene and found the 36-year-old motorcyclist suffering from injuries described by medics as "possibly life-changing".

The 36-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been admitted to hospital and undergone scans under the supervision of club medical staff.

Cudicini was selected by only 2% of teams so this wont have much of an impact on many teams, however its worth having a fresh look at the goalkeepers doing well.

What is clear is that sinking large amounts of money into a premium name goalkeeper is not the best option so far this season. In fact, many good deals can be had for under £4.5m.

Top of the list is Burnley's Brian Jensen. Burnley have only kept 3 clean sheets and have leaked 23 goals so far this season, but Jensen is always busy making stops and is playing the full 90 minutes. At £4.2m, he is fine choice for backup keeper and could even play as the lead keeper if you feel the savings would earn more elsewhere.

Sorensen of Stoke at £4.3 is the second best at this price. Joe Hart of Birmingham is also worth a look at £4.2m, and with their favourable run of fixtures until Christmas it may be as good a time as any to pick him up. Rounding out the bunch is Wayne Hennessey of Wolves, who has played every minute and is well worth his £4.0 pricetag.
