Our Fantasy Picks for GW1

Schmeichel

Ivanovic Mertesacker Cedric

Walcott Lallana Hazard Barkley

Costa van-Wolfswinkel Rooney

Leicester are a good shout to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland.
Chelsea are the big guns and can't / shouldn't be overlooked.
Lallana & Walcott are fantasticly good pre-season.
S'hampton play the dreadful Newcastle, who will be booed off their home park in GW1.
Everton are likely to put a few past Watford & Barkley is good value.
van Wolfswinkel put a few away in preseason & knows where goal is.
Man Utd have epic mids now, and Rooney is the sole forward.

Alexander For The Bench!

Graham Alexander is Burnley's captain, is £4.5m, and best of all is likely to line up in front of his stated position. Alexander is listed in the game as a defender but he's really Burnley's defensive midfielder. While he likely won't be earning clean sheet points every week, every little bit helps. And on top of that positional bonus, Alexander is Burnley's penalty kick taker, scoring nine of them last season. The 37-year-old captain, who should operate mainly as a holding midfielder, started all last season’s 61 games and scored 9 goals last season. He also played 5 times for Scotland last season.

At £4.5m, Alexander will be worth having on the bench, and when other managers see he plays a regular 90 minutes or if he even pops away a penalty in the opening few weeks, his price is likely to rise.

Burnley don't have the best opening fixtures list, facing Stoke, the Big Three and Everton in the first five weeks. After that things start to get a little better for them, although as Premier League new boys every game will be tough. Still, there are plenty of newly promoted teams who have survived, or even done well, in their first season.

The Guardian's season preview predicts Burnley to finish 16th; the Times predict a 15th place finish. Most bookmakers however have Burnley as the favorite to be relegated. Clearly there is some mixed opinions on the team, and they obviously won't win the league. But once Burnley have moved past their horror opening fixtures expect to see occasional points coming their way, and as the club captain and penalty taker, Alexander represents a decent bench player with potential for price increases.
