Possibly the best attribute a player in your EPL fantasy team can have is to be a penalty taker. But until the season is underway, it can also be one of the hardest things to tie down. Preseason games are indicators only, and the presence or absence of something happening in a preseason game does not indicate we should take that as a given either. After all, Gerrard playing for the Liverpool reserves in a recent preseason EPL friendly does not mean we should bet on him struggling to make the Liverpool First 11.
Equally, Liam Lawrence will be hoping preseason counts for little in his gaffers mind, as he missed a penalty kick as Stoke went down 2-1 at Championship team Preston yesterday. It shouldnt affect his position as the teams penalty taker however.
The list below shows expected penalty takers for each EPL side. These are a based on a mix of information gathered from last season matches, pre-season friendlies and also the a player’s role at previous clubs. Players are listed in the likely order of priority, e.g. the first name in the list is the preferred taker.
Arsenal - Van Persie, Adebayor

Our Fantasy Picks for GW1Schmeichel Ivanovic Mertesacker Cedric Walcott Lallana Hazard Barkley Costa van-Wolfswinkel Rooney |
Leicester are a good shout to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland. Chelsea are the big guns and can't / shouldn't be overlooked. Lallana & Walcott are fantasticly good pre-season. S'hampton play the dreadful Newcastle, who will be booed off their home park in GW1. Everton are likely to put a few past Watford & Barkley is good value. van Wolfswinkel put a few away in preseason & knows where goal is. Man Utd have epic mids now, and Rooney is the sole forward. |
