Schmeichel

Ivanovic Mertesacker Cedric

Walcott Lallana Hazard Barkley

Leicester are a good shout to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland.
Chelsea are the big guns and can't / shouldn't be overlooked.
Lallana & Walcott are fantasticly good pre-season.
S'hampton play the dreadful Newcastle, who will be booed off their home park in GW1.
Everton are likely to put a few past Watford & Barkley is good value.
van Wolfswinkel put a few away in preseason & knows where goal is.
Man Utd have epic mids now, and Rooney is the sole forward.

Premium Attackers: Big Guns, Coming Through.

Perhaps the toughest question of this year's EPL fantasy preseason is which of the biggest EPL strikers should be used. They are all costly, and there is uncertainty over starting lineups and succeptibility to injury. But choosing the right striker force early is vital, particularly as many opening fixtures provide the opportunity for some big points.

One approach to choosing your star striker depends who else you have in your team. If you have gone with a high priced central midfielder (which is definately a good policy this season) then pick your striker from a different team, and rotate the captaincy between whoever has the easiest fixture. For example if you have Lampard, then Torres/Lampard offer good captaincy choices for the opening alternate weeks. GW1 - Lampard, GW2 - Torres, GW3 - Lampard, etc. If you have Gerrard then by the same logic go with Drogba or Anelka.

Another approach is to try and find who will have the most success early, regardless of your other players. This is a much tougher question to answer.

From Liverpool it is an easy decision; choose Torres. He is a certainty to start and on simple goals to games ratio he is perhaps the best striker in EPL. There are question marks over his fragility, although in the opening weeks this should not be a problem. Torres is definately a good choice - as the most expensive striker in the game should be! Torres is the bookies favorite for the EPL golden boot this year.

Choosing just one forward from Chelsea is not as easy. Both Drogba and Anelka are fine choices and are equally priced at £10.5m. Some of Ancelotti's comments seem to favour Drogba, but there is speculation he is more likely to get played in a deeper role than Anelka - which may mean fewer goals. The community shield should throw up some clues as to the preferred Chelsea formation. Most bookies have Drogba as slight favorite for golden boot ahead of Anelka, but it is very close. Go with your gut instinct on this one, both players are sound options.

With the arrival of Michael Owen, Man Utd has three strikers in contention for gametime. The BBC reports that with Carlos Tevez and Ronaldo departing the club over summer, Ferguson is likely to use Rooney as a central striker alongside either Owen or Berbatov. Similarly, the Guardian writes "...Ferguson indicated he saw [Owen] as support to the existing strike pairing of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. "We can carry Michael Owen. I won't ask him to play every four days, I might ask him to play every 10 days," the manager said. "We can do it because I always rotate my squad." Interestingly, many bookies dont see it this way and have Owen and Rooney at almost equal odds at around 12-1 for golden boot ahead of Berbatov at 20-1.

It will be interesting to see how many games Owen does get. Again, watch the community shield for more clues on this one. At this stage, Rooney seems the best choice, followed by Berbatov then Owen.

Arsenal have a tough opening fixture list including Everton, a bye in gameweek 2 and Man Utd within the first four weeks, so at this stage their top attacker, Van Persie, is not recommended.

There is very little to seperate the top 4 strikers in EPL fantasy league for the first few games. Torres seems like the top bet but this is no guarentee of the largest points haul from the premier strikers, and any of the key players could be number one in the EPL by the end of August. Further to this, the extra £ saved by choosing someone other than Torres may make a big difference to another position in your squad.

The decision is yours!
