Lampard vs Gerrard

Lampard and Gerrard are consistently among the top points scorers in FF, and are priced as such. If you can only choose one, which one should you take? Both are very good players with not a lot between them in terms of FF points, but we favour Lampard.

Both are penalty takers and both are key team members who will play almost every minute this season (barring injury). And both Chelsea and Liverpool have good early fixtures. Doubt over Lampards likelihood of starting has been largely dispelled through the course of the Chelsea preseason. Lampard has played in, and scored in, almost every game. He is in good form and the coach has faith in him.

Gerrard's preseason suffered a setback against Valerenga when he suffered a thigh strain that is likely to keep him out of an early Champions League match. It is only minor and Liverpool are hoping that he will be fit for the start of the season, but it does play against him when we are choosing against a fully fit Lampard.

From a selection point of view, Lampard is only selected by 5% of people, whereas Gerrard is selected by 28%. This means 28% of the league will overtake you if Gerrard does well but if Lampard does well you'll overtake 95% of people.

Further, with Keane now playing behind Torres at 'Pool, Gerrard may be in a more central midfield roll which may reduce his goal threat (although increase his assist threat).

Both players are fine choices and there is not much to decide between the two. However Gerrard's recent injury may leave him less than 100% on opening day, and given that only 5% of opposition managers have chosen Lampard in their team, he makes for a marginally better choice.
