Our Fantasy Picks for GW1

Schmeichel

Ivanovic Mertesacker Cedric

Walcott Lallana Hazard Barkley

Costa van-Wolfswinkel Rooney

Leicester are a good shout to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland.
Chelsea are the big guns and can't / shouldn't be overlooked.
Lallana & Walcott are fantasticly good pre-season.
S'hampton play the dreadful Newcastle, who will be booed off their home park in GW1.
Everton are likely to put a few past Watford & Barkley is good value.
van Wolfswinkel put a few away in preseason & knows where goal is.
Man Utd have epic mids now, and Rooney is the sole forward.

2007 / 2008 Transfer Usage review

The Fantasy Premier League game gives you 1 free transfer every week, and after that each transfer will cost you 4 points. Managing transfers is an important part of running a successful Fantasy League team.

How many transfers should you be aiming to make each week? Is it worth making an extra transfer, if needed, every month or so? If my transfer will cost me 4 points but I believe will bring more points than that this week, isn't it better to make that switch now, rather than later?

With the 07 / 08 English Premiership coming to a close, I took a look at the top 50 teams in the Fantasy Premier League to see how the best of the best were doing it. Here is the data:

# of Transfers made by the 2007 / 2008 Top 50 teams:

34 48 48 46 27 44 33 35 38 12
27 56 51 42 32 40 42 42 27 41
32 51 43 36 51 36 17 39 28 36
33 27 35 46 28 38 52 39 43 28
34 37 45 49 41 44 45 62 29 38

This works out to an average of 38.54 transfers made during the season. Given that there is 38 gameweeks in the league, this data suggests that the answer to the question "How many transfers should I make this season" would be as close to 1 per week as possible.

It's not really rocket science, but if you can plan your transfers so you do not have to sacrifice any points on additional transfers, then those points will pay off at the end of the season over rivals who made ill-disciplined transfers.

As we call those teams around here, don't become a Knee Jerk United.
