Alexei Smertin is a Fulham midfielder who, in terms of Premier League Fantasy Football, has had a fantastic start to the Premiership. He has scored one goal, one assist and three bonus points from the first three games, and going into Gameweek 4 he is tied as the fourth highest point scoring midfielder.

The best part is, he started out costing only £4.0m pounds.

This is changing of course - his value is rising and is £4.1m at the moment. Fulham have scored at least once in each of their first three fixtures, and if they can carry this on despite the absence of injured striker Brian McBride, then it is likely that Smertin will continue to accrue points.

He plays 90 minutes most games, so is going to get at least 2 points most weeks. Should he earn another bonus point here or there, or tap away another goal or two, his price is sure to keep rising.

At £4.1m, Smertin makes a fine choice as a cheap substitute to have on the bench. His price is likely to keep rising and thus raise your team's price. He is playing in good form, and it is good to pick an in-form player as they tend to earn points in 'waves'. Finally, as he plays a regular 90 minutes for Fulham, he is an excellent choice to have as a capable replacement should any of your big name midfielders miss a game through injury, international duty or suspensions.
